Why Choose an Auli Chopta Package from Delhi?

Auli and Chopta are often visited separately, but combining them creates a more complete Uttarakhand holiday.

Auli is located in Chamoli district and is known for skiing, mountain views and open meadows. The Chamoli District Administration describes Auli as a high-altitude destination that can be reached from Joshimath by road or ropeway. The destination offers views of major Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dunagiri.

Chopta has a quieter and more natural character. It is surrounded by forests and provides access to Tungnath, one of the Panch Kedar temples. The trek continues to Chandrashila, a summit known for wide Himalayan views.

This package is suitable for travellers who want more than a conventional hill-station holiday. It combines long scenic drives, religious sites, snow activities, nature walks and a memorable Himalayan trek.

Day-Wise Auli Chopta Itinerary from Delhi

Day 1: Delhi to Rishikesh or Haridwar

Your journey begins with a morning pickup from your home, hotel, airport, railway station or another agreed location in Delhi.

Travel towards Uttarakhand through Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. Depending on traffic and your selected hotel, continue to Haridwar or Rishikesh.

After arrival, check in and relax. If time permits, visit Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar or attend the evening Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh. These visits depend on your arrival time and traffic conditions.

Dinner and overnight stay in Haridwar or Rishikesh.

Approximate travel time: 5 to 7 hours.

Day 2: Rishikesh or Haridwar to Joshimath or Auli

After an early breakfast, begin the mountain journey towards Joshimath and Auli.

The route generally passes through Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, Chamoli and Pipalkoti before reaching Joshimath.

Stop briefly at Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet to form the Ganga. Continue beside the Alaknanda River through a series of mountain towns and valleys.

Lunch and refreshment stops can be taken along the route. Reach Joshimath or Auli by evening, check in and rest after the long journey.

Dinner and overnight stay in Joshimath or Auli.

Approximate travel time: 9 to 11 hours, depending on traffic, weather and road conditions.

Day 3: Auli Sightseeing and Activities

After breakfast, spend the day exploring Auli.

Also known as Auli Bugyal, Auli is famous for its mountain meadows, forest surroundings and views of the Garhwal Himalayas. During winter, the slopes may be covered with snow and become suitable for seasonal skiing activities.

Places and experiences may include:

  • Artificial Lake
  • Himalayan viewpoints
  • Short nature walks
  • Optional ropeway ride
  • Optional chairlift ride
  • Seasonal skiing
  • Snow activities
  • Photography
  • Views of Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dunagiri

Auli’s ropeway, chairlift and skiing facilities depend on weather, snow, maintenance and official operating conditions. These activities should only be considered confirmed when the relevant service is operating and tickets are available.

During winter, beginners can arrange skiing lessons and equipment through local operators. In summer and autumn, visitors can enjoy walks through the meadows and surrounding forest.

Return to your hotel in the evening.

Day 4: Auli or Joshimath to Chopta

After breakfast, check out and begin the drive towards Chopta.

Depending on the current road condition, the route may pass through Joshimath, Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Mandal and the forested areas leading towards Chopta.

If time permits, visit Narsingh Temple in Joshimath before departure or stop at Gopinath Temple in Gopeshwar. These visits are optional and depend on road conditions and available daylight.

As the journey approaches Chopta, the scenery becomes greener and quieter. Dense forests, mountain villages and open meadows replace the busier towns of the Alaknanda Valley.

Check in at your camp, cottage, guest house or hotel near Chopta. Spend the evening enjoying the peaceful surroundings and preparing for the next day’s trek.

Dinner and overnight stay near Chopta.

Approximate travel time: 5 to 7 hours, depending on the route and road conditions.

Day 5: Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek

Wake up early and have breakfast before travelling to the starting point of the Tungnath trek.

The trail climbs gradually through forest and meadow landscapes. As you gain height, the views become wider and the surrounding Himalayan peaks begin to appear.

According to the Uttarakhand Tourism Panch Kedar guide, the trek from Chopta to Tungnath is approximately four kilometres.

Tungnath is one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The stone temple is situated at an elevation of around 3,677 metres and is widely described as one of the highest Shiva temples in the world.

Spend some time at Tungnath Temple. Darshan is possible only during the official opening season.

Travellers with sufficient fitness can continue towards Chandrashila, located approximately one to one-and-a-half kilometres above Tungnath. This final section is steeper and can be difficult when affected by snow, ice, rain or strong winds.

On a clear day, Chandrashila offers panoramic views of peaks such as Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Trishul, Nanda Devi and Neelkanth.

Descend carefully and return to your accommodation near Chopta.

About Auli

Auli is among India’s most popular skiing destinations. It lies approximately 16 kilometres from Joshimath and can be approached by road. A ropeway also connects the Joshimath and Auli area when services are operational.

The destination changes with every season. Winter may bring snow-covered slopes, while spring and summer reveal green meadows and forest walks. Autumn often offers clearer views of the surrounding mountains.

Popular Auli experiences include:

  • Skiing during suitable snow conditions
  • Ropeway and chairlift rides
  • Walking around Auli meadow
  • Visiting Artificial Lake
  • Watching sunrise and sunset
  • Photographing Nanda Devi
  • Short forest walks
  • Snow play for families
  • Staying in a mountain-view hotel

Snowfall is a natural event and cannot be guaranteed for a particular travel date.

About Chopta

Chopta is a mountain destination surrounded by forests and meadows. The official Uttarakhand Tourism Chopta guide describes it as an all-season destination, with pleasant summers, monsoon greenery and snow-covered winter landscapes.

The region is known for:

  • Tungnath Temple
  • Chandrashila summit
  • Forest walks
  • Mountain views
  • Birdwatching
  • Camping
  • Photography
  • Peaceful village stays

Chopta does not have the same level of infrastructure as a major hill station. Accommodation can be simple, and facilities such as mobile networks, electricity, hot water and room heating may be limited.

Best Time to Visit Auli and Chopta

April to June

This period is suitable for pleasant weather, green scenery and trekking. Tungnath Temple generally opens during the main pilgrimage season, but the official date should be checked before travel.

Days may feel comfortable, while evenings remain cold.

July to August

The monsoon brings fresh greenery but also creates a risk of landslides, falling stones, slippery trails and road closures.

Travellers should avoid trekking during heavy rain and follow all government advisories.

September to November

This is one of the best periods for clear mountain views, photography and trekking. The weather becomes colder as November approaches.

December to March

Winter is popular for snow experiences in Auli and Chopta. Skiing may be available in Auli when there is sufficient snow.

Tungnath Temple remains seasonally closed, and the trek can require winter equipment or a qualified local guide. Road access can also change after heavy snowfall.
